the menu displays within the window. Is there anyway to make the menu drop down even if the window is not big enough to acomodate it. The thing is there is content down there so the window should already scroll. But when opened to maximum capacity in windows the menu falls a little before the status bar. I want my menu to go down below that point so the user will know that they should scroll down to see the rest of the menu options. Currently all it does is repositions the menu in the middle of the level 1 menu bar.

Nope, it's not possible to turn off the window size detection feature. It's configured to always detect the size of the window and keep any popping menus entirely in the viewport so that the users could click on any menu item of the visible menus in all circumstances.
