When i use use the example menus with the "my favourite music" submenu i noticed that if i scroll down to the bottom, move the mouse away to close the menu, then go back to that menu, the menu is still at the bottom.
Is it possible to get the scrollable menu to default to the top when opened?

Yep, it is done this way on purpose. I think it's much more usable.
With the original code you can't make it function the way you want but I can make and send you customized versions of the script core files if you like. Please let me know..
